Tulum International Airport Reaches 1 Million Passengers in 11 Months

Tulum, Q.R.Tulum International Airport reaches 1 million passengers within just 11 months of operation, far surpassing initial projections. Governor Mara Lezama celebrated this achievement on Sunday, calling it a historic milestone for Tulum and the Mexican Caribbean region.

Passenger Milestone Highlights Growth

The airport welcomed its one-millionth passenger, Gerardo Treviño Zúñiga, who arrived from Monterrey on a Viva Aerobús flight. His arrival highlights how Tulum International Airport reaches 1 million passengers in less than a year, showcasing its rapid rise as a top travel hub.

Governor Lezama commented, “The arrival of our one-millionth passenger underscores the confidence that travelers place in Tulum and Quintana Roo as premier destinations. With over 59% of passengers returning, this achievement affirms that we’re moving in the right direction.”

Exceeding Expectations
Initially, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimated Tulum International Airport would handle around 700,000 passengers and 4,500 flights in its first year. Instead, the airport has already completed over 7,790 operations, reaching a million passengers.

With this pace, the airport is expected to close 2024 with over 10,100 operations and 1.3 million passengers, making it a crucial connectivity hub for the Mexican Caribbean.

This success not only boosts tourism but also supports local business growth. Increased connectivity with other regional infrastructure, such as the Mayan Train, further enhances Tulum’s appeal.
